Cloud computing refers to using the internet to access computers and servers far away that store the data and applications for use without setting up a huge infrastructure. There are three terms one uses when it comes to cloud computing - Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS).

When using the cloud computing, one is able to use the hardware and operating system, data and applications in a server far away which can be accessed over the internet for effective use as needed, without a lot of expense.

This hardware, network and the entire set up is owned by one entity for internal access by several branches, members and staff within that organization. No one outside this organization is allowed access and strict firewall and security measures provide confidentiality and security of the data stored. We set up the Private Cloud as BOT model, if desired.

Part of the data reside in a Private server and part in a public server, which enables a hybrid set up, giving the benefit of both types of cloud computing.

More than one individual or organizations share the server, even though the strict security measures prevent any unauthorized access. The hardware, network, software, etc. are owned by the provider and the customers pay based on their use - similar to a utility.

The end-user does not need to purchase software or its new versions every time and spend time on upgrading, etc. These are leased or rented effectively from a provider who owns the software and maintains it and charges a nominal fee to the end-user, based on usage. Lot of applications are provided under this SaaS model for online computing using the internet.

In this, the provider sets up the hardware, network, broad band connectivity and also physical security to ensure protection, confidentiality as well as near 100 % access 24/7/365, with redundancy, duplicity, etc. The end-user saves a lot of money for initial as well as recurrent expenses on all these. The efficiency of the computing power is much better and helps to lower the overall expense for all those who use this model.

The software that allows the seamless operations and interaction among the various hardware and set up that enable proper functioning of the cloud computing. This is also called middleware or Platform and again is purchased and deployed by the provider.
